Let's face it, there are thousands of marriage counselors and millions of relationship self-help books. So what makes 50 Secrets To Blissful Relationships by Michael Webb any different?

Let's find out:
First of all, it's great to see that, unlike many other authors, Michael Webb let's you inside his world. You get real-life examples of ways to solve relationship challenges, all based on his own personal life.

Second, unlike many other “experts” and marriage counselors, Michael Webb walks the walk. Michael Webb has never had a fight with his wife of 15 years, Athena. Inside this book, you learn exactly what he's done to make this a reality. Everything you read, he does or has done to improve his relationship, and that's what I really wanted to see - experience and real-life practice.

The book itself is simply set out with about one tip per day and just continues like this until the end of the book. Just about every tip had me shaking my head in agreement, as it gave me real-life solutions and several of those “a-ha” moments of profound understanding. The only real down side of the book is that every tip is set out with the same formula: story or unrelated example, followed by how that example ties into relationships and that exact topic.

If you're impatient or in a hurry, you can always start about halfway down and find out exactly what point he's trying to make.

Also, instead of the tip titles providing a clear “how to solve X problem” or a clear topic description, it simply has a phrase that ties together with the information. Now while this is no big deal, it would have been nice to be able to skim the book to exactly the advice I wanted. Although if you read the information on the sales page, you can work out what information belongs where in the book. So it's not too bad.

All in all, this is one of the best relationship books I've ever seen and it definitely deserves a read, especially if you have serious problems in your relationship.

Years before there existed a Saint Valentine to warm the heart and inject passion into the equation, mid-February was looked forward to as an exciting time for lovers. As early as 400 years before Christ, the Romans took part in a special competition in honor of their god of shepherds, Lupercus.

Young women's names were put into a box and drawn by chance alone by adolescent men. The couples thus selected were legally paired for the next twelve months.

600 years later, the soldier-emperor Claudius II prohibited young men from marrying -- because he took it into his head that single men made better soldiers.

A Christian bishop, Valentine, didn't agree with Claudius and secretly performed marriage ceremonies until Claudius dicovered his disloyalty and after imprisoning him, and finally caused him to be martyred for his faith on February 24th, 270.

According to legend, while he was incarcerated, Valentine fell in love with the daughter of his jailer and when he was finally taken to be killed, he wrote her a note signed, 'From your Valentine.'

Using the name of the martyred priest as an excuse, the Church, in AD 496, saw a great opportunity to get rid of the hated pairing off lottery run in the name of the god Lupercus and so made some changes of their own to the rules of the event:

After that, any young person, male or female, would pick a name out of the hat, but now they wouldn't get the expected year of 'marriage' (and often lust), they drew the name of a Saint whose life they were obliged spend the next year emulating.

The day of the new-style lottery was named in honor of Saint Valentine whose choice, over 220 years after his execution, was aimed at ridding Christian Rome of the pagan god than from any real intention to promote love.

As politicians through the ages often forget, the public's memory was harder to beat down than political will -- particularly when unpopular and Saint Valentine never really stopped being synonymous with lovers. Young Roman men, missing their traditional sweepstake, took instead to giving notes to the women they hoped to gain favor with on February 14th.

So it was that the modern habit of giving Valentines cards and messages was was introduced over 1500 years ago!

The earliest known card that still exists is owned by the British Museum. It was sent by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife in 1415. He was a prisoner in the Tower of London at the time and so his feelings of love were probably more acute than most!

In the late 1500's the Bishop of Geneva wanted to reintroduce the regular 'live like a saint' lottery, but the people were not much interested. February 14th was by then too firmly associated with lovers for the Church to successfully interfere.

In the early Regency period, in 1797 a British publisher, a very enterprising fellow, issued a guidebook called 'The Young Man's Valentine Writer' which contained pages of suggestions of love poems for those who couldn't write their own.

Anonymous Valentines cards all started in Victorian times. The publicly highly repressed Victorians secretly loved anything sensual and passionate, but outwardly had to display a veneer of respectful purity. Amusingly for us the verses in the cards became more and more obscene, but the authors remained hidden from behind their self-imposed anonymity.

The first seller of Valentine's cards in in the United States, Esther Holland was able to charge up to $35 for a single card. That was a fortune in 1870!

In case you are wondering, kisses are written as 'x' because in the days before people could generally read and write, a person would 'sign' their name with their mark -- a cross. So that the mark would carry weight, people would kiss the cross they had drawn -- in the same way that they would kiss the Bible. Unsurprisingly the written 'x' and the kiss became one and the same.

1. Send Them A Unique Gift
Get a piece of paper and some crayons. Draw a bright childlike picture with a smiley sun and two stick figures holding hands. Add labels with your two names pointing to the stick figures. Write ‘I Love You’ inside a heart.

Next get a large formal envelope. Place your drawing inside and type up a formal address label of your partner's workplace,such as: “For the immediate and urgent attention of: Rebecca Jones, Level 20, Collins & Smith Solicitors, New York.” Mail it to your partner so they receive it in the middle of a busy day.

2. Become Kids Again
If you are walking by a park, visit the swings and give your partner a ride. This will often bring back happy memories from their childhood.

3. Fun With Water
